Ryanair cabin bag sizes 2026: the free personal bag is 40 × 30 × 20cm, while Priority & 2 Cabin Bags includes an additional 10kg bag up to 55 × 40 × 20cm for the overhead locker.
Getting the size right matters. Here's what the allowances mean for UK travellers, what fits under the seat, and what goes in the overhead locker.
Ryanair cabin bag rules 2026
- Free personal bag: one bag up to 40 × 30 × 20cm that must fit under the seat in front of you.
- Priority & 2 Cabin Bags: the personal bag plus one 10kg bag up to 55 × 40 × 20cm for the overhead locker, when that option is on your booking.
Without the overhead-bag entitlement, do not assume a larger cabin suitcase can go in the locker. Check Ryanair's latest policy and your booking confirmation before travelling.
Choosing a bag for the free personal-bag allowance
The entire packed bag, including filled exterior pockets and handles, needs to fit within 40 × 30 × 20cm and under the seat. A compact backpack or soft bag can be worth considering, but an “under-seat” label does not mean the bag meets Ryanair's measurements. Check the product's full dimensions and how it packs before choosing it.
Choosing a Priority cabin bag
With Priority & 2 Cabin Bags, the additional 10kg bag can measure up to 55 × 40 × 20cm and goes in the overhead locker. That is separate from your 40 × 30 × 20cm personal bag. Check the full exterior size, including wheels and handles, and the weight after packing. The cabin-size luggage selection includes cases with published measurements; compare each listing with your booking rather than assuming an airline approval.

Tips for flying Ryanair with hand luggage
- Measure your bag externally, including pockets, wheels and handles.
- Make sure a free personal bag fits under the seat within the 40 × 30 × 20cm size.
- Only plan on using the overhead locker for the additional bag if Priority & 2 Cabin Bags is on your booking; keep it within 55 × 40 × 20cm and 10kg packed.
- Recheck Ryanair's latest baggage guidance before departure.
